Detailed Biography of Bruce J Parker
|
|
Like so many people I became interested in photography at a young age; I was about 10. My great uncle, a cameraman for Fox Movietone, was my first mentor. By the time I was 13, I had a summer job in one of the oldest portrait studios on the East coast. Again, this was arranged by my uncle who was a friend of the owner.
While in high school I continued to work in studios. I was an English major at Hartwick College and graduated in 1970. After graduation, I worked as a studio portrait photographer, photographing between 1970 and 1976 over 7000 clients. From 1976 to 1979 I owned a business in Northern New Jersey which provided photographic services to many of the large corporations that were headquartered there; these included laboratory and media production services. Some of the floor space was devoted to a photo gallery, although in the 70's photography as art was just beginning to catch on. The two major galleries in New York City at the time, LIGHT and the Witkin Gallery were both my clients. Our lab made reproduction copies of the great prints of Paul Strand, Edward Weston and many others.
