|
|
Their unique comic sensibilities, hailed by both audiences and critics alike, are on display in such hit films as their blockbuster debut, "Dumb & Dumber (1994)," which earned over $340 million worldwide; their follow-up comedy, the critically-acclaimed bowling spoof, "Kingpin (1996)," which starred Woody Harrelson and Randy Quaid; and "There's Something About Mary (1998)," the fourth highest grossing film of 1998.
The latter also garnered awards from the New York Film Critics (Best Actress for Cameron Diaz), the People's Choice Award as Best Comedy of 1998, two Golden Globe nominations (including one for Best Picture-Comedy) and four MTV Movie Awards?, including Best Picture and Best Actress. The Farrellys were also honored as Screenwriters of the Year by the National Association of Theater Owners at the 1999 ShoWest Convention.
Last year, the Farrellys directed the box-office hit "Me, Myself & Irene (2000)," starring Jim Carrey and Renée Zellweger. They are currently producing "Ringer, The (2001)," directed by Barry Blaustein.
The Cumberland, Rhode Island natives began their entertainment writing careers in the 1980s, and scored their first sale with two episodes of the award-winning NBC series, "Seinfeld. " They next landed a deal with New Line Cinema for their debut feature, "Dumb & Dumber (1994). " On their freshman effort, Peter made his directorial debut, with brother Bobby
co-producing the Jim Carrey hit.
Their success on the big screen has led the pair to form Conundrum Entertainment, which will develop and produce multiple feature projects through their first-look deal at Twentieth Century Fox. Upcoming
projects include the comedies "No More Mr. Nice Guy (1995)," "Shallow Hal (2002)" and two animated features, "Frisco Pigeon Mambo" and "Osmosis Jones. "
