Detailed Biography of Billy Blanks
|
Billy Blanks, the creator of Tae-Bo, is a living legend of the martial arts. Billy holds a black belt in six different styles of martial arts, including a seventh-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was a five-time U.S. Champion and seven-time World Karate Champion. In 1980, Billy competed as captain of the U.S. Olympic karate team, and in 1982 he was inducted into the Karate Hall of Fame.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, as the fourth of fifteen children, Billy overcame physical handicaps, dyslexia and poverty to make himself a champion athlete, an accomplished actor and one of the most sought-after personal trainers in Hollywood. His client list includes such well-known celebrities as Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson, Neve Campbell, Goldie Hawn, Carmen Electra, Bruce Jenner, Erik Estrada, Rae Dawn Chong, Emmanuel Lewis and Rebecca de Mornay.
As an actor, Billy has played featured roles in such movies as The Last Boy Scout, Kiss the Girls and Stand Alone, as well as such popular television programs as "Melrose Place," "Street Justice," "Suddenly Susan," "Hard Copy," "Good Morning America" and "E! Entertainment." In addition, he has been profiled by such popular magazines as People, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, MenÕs Fitness, Elle and Sports for Women.
Billy developed Tae-Bo to share his fitness and motivational expertise with the world. Today, Billy, his wife Gayle and their two children make their home in California, not far from the "Billy Blanks World Training Center" in Sherman Oaks.
