Ben Gleib Biography

Ben Gleib is a stand-up comedian, actor, satirist, news commentator, and writer whose career spans television, film, podcasting, and live performance. Gleib has been recognized by Esquire as one of six comedians who could be comedy's next big thing, alongside Aziz Ansari, Patton Oswalt, David Cross, Demetri Martin, and Flight of the Conchords. TBS has also named him one of the funniest comedians working today. He is known for covering a wide range of topics in his act and for his improvisational skills, often creating large sections of his performance based on interactions with the audience.

Gleib first broke into television when he starred in the NBC primetime comedy series "The Real Wedding Crashers." He became a fixture on cable television, making more than 25 appearances on "The Today Show" with Kathie Lee and Hoda on NBC and appearing on "@midnight" on Comedy Central. For seven years, he was a roundtable regular on "Chelsea Lately" on E! with over 100 appearances. Gleib hosted four seasons and 212 episodes of the game show "Idiotest" on Game Show Network, also serving as head writer and co-executive producer for part of the show's run. "Idiotest" became a top original program on the network before moving to Netflix, where it was only the second game show ever on the platform, following Jeopardy! The Emmy-nominated show features two teams of two contestants facing off in increasingly challenging visual brain puzzles for a chance to win up to $10,000.

As an actor, Gleib has built a diverse voice-over résumé. He is the voice of Marshall the Sloth in "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and voices Dali in "The Book of Life." He is also one of the lead actors in the Disney+ horror/comedy series "Just Beyond," playing a 1930s film star who is now a ghost in the episode "We've Got Spirits, Yes We Do," directed by Marc Webb. Beyond acting, Gleib has demonstrated versatility as a media personality, serving as guest co-anchor for ABC News digital from ABC News world headquarters in New York and providing election night coverage. He has also been a frequent on-air contributor on CNN, The Young Turks, and NPR, and received a Golden Mic Award for his work on Southern California NPR's Patt Morrison's Comedy Congress.

Gleib's stand-up career includes specials that showcase his comedic voice. His hour-long stand-up special "Ben Gleib: Neurotic Gangster" debuted on Showtime and has been available on Amazon Prime. His follow-up special, "Ben Gleib: The Mad King," was produced by Helium Comedy Studios and released on their YouTube channel. Gleib filmed his third special, "Endings," which explores the most challenging year of his life. During the pandemic, Gleib co-founded Nowhere Comedy Club, the world's first entirely digital comedy club, which encouraged audiences to keep their video and audio active during Zoom sessions so that performers could see and hear the audience's laughter, mimicking a live in-person venue. Within a few months, the club sold more than 10,000 tickets to livestreamed comedy events.

Gleib has been featured in the Netflix Is a Joke Festival and selected for Best of the Fest at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. He is also known for his improvisational comedy, hosting a monthly all-improvised worldwide virtual show called "Gleib Off The Top," as well as an improvised show with Greg Proops of Whose Line fame, and an occasional show with John Cleese of Monty Python, called "Cleese Gleib Me Alone." Gleib launched "Good Night with Ben Gleib," one of YouTube's first late-night talk shows made exclusively for the platform, designed to evolve the traditional celebrity-focused late-night space by broadening its scope to include top thought leaders, creators, experts, and entrepreneurs.
