Biography of B. Smith

 As a restaurateur she has created casually elegant environments and eclectic menus that bring people of all backgrounds together.  She is the owner of three restaurants; B. Smith's on Restaurant Row in New York City, B. Smith's at Union Station in Washington DC and B. Smith's on Long Wharf Marina in Sag Harbor, NY.

On her TV show B. Smith with Style, with the help of experts and celebrities, she helps viewers express their own personal style in everything they do-- emphasizing passion over perfection. The primary focus of the show is to provide viewers with easy, affordable suggestions to augment and personalize their own style around the home. Now in its 6th season, B. Smith with Style touches on such subjects as home entertainment, gardening, craft and design with celebrity guests. During the show, B. provides her viewers with an intimate view into her life and personal style. B. Smith with Style is a nationally televised weekly lifestyle television show airing on the cable/satellite television network TVOne.

In her books she shares many of her lifestyle secrets about entertaining, home, travel, fashion and beauty; providing readers with useful information on how to savor the good life with balance and a big heart. B. Smith enjoys extraordinary success in the publishing world. Her initial publication was a quarterly newsletter that included recipes and lifestyle information that attempted to capture the style of a B.Smith restaurant. These newsletters later evolved into B. Smith's first book, B. Smith's Entertaining and Cooking for Friends (1995). Published by Artisan Publishing, the book advises readers on various methods of entertaining for business or pleasure. Unprecedented demand resulted in a second printing of the book after it was on the market for only eight weeks.

Since 1998, B. Smith has contributed her lifestyle advice column, Stylewise, to Soap Opera Digest, the leading publication for soap opera fans. Through this publication, B. Smith reaches over two million subscribers worldwide.

In October 1999, B. Smith released her second book B. Smith Rituals & Celebrations published by Random House simultaneously with release of the magazine B. Smith Style. This uniquely creative composition of various rituals and celebrations provide readers with a historical perspective, original recipe suggestions, and other festive information. Rituals and Celebrations was nominated for a James Beard Award, won a literary award from the American Library Association and was recognized by Food and Wine Magazine "Best of the Best" Book Award in 1999. 

B. Smith has also found success as a product spokesperson. She has partnered with leading merchandisers and manufacturers to bring her unique vision, style and sensibility to useful products people can use everyday.
