Andrea Thompson was born in Dayton Ohio on January 6, 1960. She was raised in a devout Catholic upbringing. Although she was born in the United States, Andrea Thompson spent her growing up years in Australia. After leaving high school at age 16, she first visited places around the world before deciding to go back to the United States. She then returned to her home country in search of a career in acting and modeling.
Andrea Thompson landed in New York, where she was found by acting agent Irene Marie. She then underwent intensive acting training at the Lee Strasberg Studio. She was first known to the industry because of her unusual voice abilites.
Her first distinguished film role was in the movie Wall Street in 1987. This was followed by part in the soap opera Falcon Crest as Genele Ericson. In 1993, she was cast as Talia Winters in the science fiction hit TV series Babylon 5. It was in the said series where she met and married co-star Jerry Doyle in 1995. Andrea Thompson left the show after the second season and the couple had one son. However, the couple broke up in 1997.
After Babylon 5, Andrea Thompson was soon known as Detective Jill Kirkendall in the crime drama NYPD Blue. She stayed on the series for three seasons, and left in 2000 to pursue another field, this time, journalism.
Andrea Thompson found new work as a reporter and news anchor in KRQE, a CBS affiliate network located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Because of her intelligent delivery of news reports, she was hired by CNN to anchor the network’s evening news program, CNN Headline News. Her opening words as an anchor were quoted as: ‘Hi, I’m Andrea Thompson, and unless you’ve been living in a cave, you probably already know that.’
Her hiring in the CNN Network struck quite a deal of controversy primarily because Andrea Thompson was a high school drop out, making her journalism skills questionable. Her only journalism experience before CNN was a year’s work in Albuquerque. This controversy was aggravated when nude photographs of her taken during the 1980s were spread over the internet, thus nearly destroying her credibility as a journalist as well as a embarrassment for the network.
After a few months of staying in CNN, Andrea Thompson left the network stating she had grown bored with her current work. She then worked for Court TV serving as the narrator for the documentary series The System.
Andrea Thompson’s most recent projects were on Medical Investigation, playing the lead role of Dr. Lois McCarthy, and a recurring character in the third season of the hit action series, 24.
