Detailed Biography of Ana P. Lopes
|
|
In 1995, Ms. Lopes established Saralex Communications, focussing on promotion, marketing, event management and fundraising activities to help clients with strategies to reposition their companies in the digital economy. She also served in a number of senior positions within the Ontario government and the City of Toronto including the role of executive assistant to Premier Bob Rae from 1992 to 1995.
Ms. Lopes is a leader in the Portuguese Canadian community and founded ABRIGO, a counselling service for families in crises and a shelter for non-English speaking women.
Ms. Lopes has helped to establish the Shirley A. Brown Memorial Chair in Women's Mental Health Research and the Tapscott Chair in Schizophrenia Studies at the University of Toronto along with her husband Don Tapscott. The chair was established in memory of Don's brother David, who developed schizophrenia in his early 20s and passed away a decade later. She is also a Member of the Board of Governors of Trent University and Vice-Chair of Fundraising at Women's College Hospital.
Ms. Lopes is deeply committed to her community and sees her participation on the Board of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as an opportunity to ensure that the TSO remains a thriving and accessible organization within the community.
Ana P. Lopes currently lives in Toronto with her husband Don and two children Nicole and Alexander.
