Spotting Alex Morgan on the pitch is easy thanks to the pink headband she always wears to hold back her hair. The young player from Diamond Bar, CA is one of the most exciting prospect for the future of women's soccer in the United States, as evidence by her play in qualifying for and at the 2011 FIFA World Cup.

When the U.S. was on the edge of World Cup qualification in November 2010, it was Morgan's stoppage-time goal against Italy that helped push the team through to the tournament's final berth. Turning 22 on July 2, Morgan was the youngest player on the U.S. roster for the 2011 World Cup, but the speedy forward turned in some impressive performances off the bench for the U.S., scoring in the semifinals and final as the Americans claimed second in the tournament.

After graduating from University of California, where she was first-team All-American her senior year, Morgan was selected by the Western New York Flash as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 Women's Professional Soccer Draft.

Morgan first grabbed the world's attention with her Silver Ball-earning run at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals in six matches, including the game-winner against Korea DPR for the title. She also earned the Bronze Shoe as the event's third-leading scorer. At the 2011 Algarve Cup in Portugal, she won the Golden Boot as the event's top scorer, netting three goals more efficiently than anyone else in 159 minutes.

Morgan dons the number 13 for Team USA, motivated in part, she says, from watching Kristine Lilly play in the 1999 World Cup. Morgan was 10 years old at the time.
