Larry started his career at Birmingham International Raceway, the same track where The Famous "ALABAMA GANG" launched thier careers into the Nascar Winston Cup record books! Larry has continued to carry on this tradition in a way that can't be matched.

He has 2 Daytona 5oo wins(1992 with Davey Allision and 1998 with Dale Earnhardt),he has directed teams to 24 wins on the Nascar Winston Cup Series,Larry was named to the Copenhagen/Skoal All-Pro-Team for 5 straight years(1991-1995)!Larry has led teams to 18 pole positions including 5 by Ernie Irvan in 1994! Larry was part of winning "The Snowball Derby" in 1978 with Dave Mader,he also worked with Bobby Ray Jones (BRJ RACECARS)when Richard Orton won the track championship at Birmingham International Raceway,He also Won the Jimmy Morris Sportsman Trophy at B.I.R. in 1979!! Larry began his Nascar Winston Cup in 1980 when he joined the Rogers Leasing Racing Team, He was first named crew chief in 1986 with the Kenny Bernstein team!

His first cup win came at Watkins Glen,NY with Ricky Rudd driving!He moved to the Robert Yates team after the 4th race of the 1991 season!With Davey Allison behind the wheel the Yates-McReynolds team won 5 races and had 15 top 5 finishes in just 25 starts that year! Allison won 5 more races in 1992 and had won once in 1993 before his untimely death! Under the direction of McReynolds,Allision won 11 races,3 poles and back to back The Winstons (1991-92) In 70 races, The McReynolds prepared Ford driven by Allison had 33 top 5 finishes and 41 top 10s!!Ernie Irvan joined the team for the final 9 races in 1993, under McReynolds' leadership, Irvan won 2 races,got 2 poles and had 5 top-5 finishes!

Following the 1996 season Larry moved to Richard Childress Racing to handle the Famous #3 driven by Dale Earnhardt and finished 5th in the points race!(with 7 top 5s and 16 top 10s)In 1998 Larry guided Dale Earnhardt to his First win in the Daytona 500! Then he moved to the Lowe's, Mike Skinner team and led them to the win at Motegi,Japan!
