Detailed Biography of Julie Foudy |
|
Julie Foudy is the co-captain of the 1999 World Champion U.S. Women\'s National Soccer team and one of the world\'s best midfield players. Also a soccer analyst for the ESPN network, Julie was instrumental in leading her team to this year’s dramatic World Cup championship.
Foudy is a 11-year veteran of the U.S. Women\'s National Team, and made her first appearance for the team at the age of sixteen on July 29, 1988, in a game against France. Foudy has since played significant roles with the national team, including starting for the team which captured the inaugural 1991 FIFA Women\'s World Cup in China, and in all five matches with the 1996 Olympics Gold Medal champions. She has currently logged more than 124 caps for the national team, placing her third all-time on the team.
Foudy was a member of the team that placed third at the 1995 world championships in Sweden. She was also a member of the U.S team that won the CONCACAF Championship in New York; a member of the U.S. team that won the silver medal at the 1993 World University Games in Buffalo, New York; a member of the U.S. team that won that title at the 1994 CONCACAF Qualifying Championship in Montreal; and she helped the team qualify for the 1995 FIFA Women’s World Championship in Sweden. She was a starter for the USA when it captured the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Championship in China, playing every minute of every game.
Born January 23, 1971, Foudy is a native of Mission Viejo, California. She graduated from Stanford University in 1993 with a B.S. degree in biology. At Stanford, she was a four-time NSCAA All-American, the 1991 Soccer America Player of the Year, the 1989 Soccer America Freshman of the Year, and the team\' s MVP for three years. |
