2006: Inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame
U.S. National Team: One of the most prolific players in the history of the U.S. Women’s National Team ... She appeared in 168 national team contests … Was a member of the U.S. team that won the inaugural 1991 Women’s World Cup in China … Captained the 1999 World Cup Champion, the 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning, 2000 silver medal-winning, and the 1995 World Cup bronze medal-winning U.S. National Teams.
WUSA Career: Overbeck scored the Golden Goal in the 2002 semifinal overtime game to propel the Carolina Courage to the Founders Cup Final. Captain of the Courage in 2001, she led the WUSA in blocks and was a second team WUSA All-Star.
College: Won four consecutive NCAA championships as a member of the UNC Tar Heels from 1986-89. North Carolina did not lose a single game during her tenure.
Personal: Married to Greg Overbeck … Has a son, Jackson, born August 14, 1997 and a daughter, Carson Elizabeth, born March 5, 2003. Serves as an assistant coach at Duke. Author of The Soccer Moms’ Cookbook (Silverback, 2005)
