Summer Sanders is one of the most successful swimmers in the history of the Olympic Games. She set an American record in the 400m individual medley at the 1992 Olympic Games and won more medals than any other U.S. swimmer that same year. Sanders won two gold medals (200m butterfly, 4x100 medley), a silver (200m individual medley) and a bronze (400m individual medley). She qualified for four individual events at the 1992 Olympic Team Trials, more than any other swimmer.
Sanders was awarded the 1992 Babe Zaharias award, which is given to the year’s top amateur athlete. She was the recipient of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Swimmer of the Year Award for two consecutive years while she was a student-athlete at Stanford University (1992, 1991). Sanders retired from swimming in December 1993 to pursue a career as a television commentator. She has done color commentary for NBC and Lifetime Television and has worked for MTV. Currently, Sanders hosts a children’s game show on Nickelodeon and is in her fourth year as a co-host of “NBA Inside Stuff.” |
