Linnda Durre', Ph.D., a licensed psychotherapist and marriage counselor with 30 years of experience, is a writer, consultant, national speaker, published author, magazine and newspaper columnist, TV and radio talk show host and media guest. She received her B.A. in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, and her M.A. and her Ph.D. in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, now known as Alliant University.
She was a research assistant at Stanford University, working on the national evaluation of Head Start. She has three elementary teaching credentials (K-6, NY, NJ, and CA), and has taught and/or lectured grades from nursery school to graduate school. She is an artist, art therapist, and former art teacher. She was an adjunct professor at Rollins College, teaching both Life Span Development and Life Transitions, a course she designed.
She consults to attorneys, serves as an expert witness in family counseling, child custody, sexual harassment and discrimination, and sexual abuse by therapists; the latter was the topic her 400-page doctoral dissertation, which was used to pass legislation in several states.
Dr. Durre' consults and speaks to businesses, corporations, agencies, non-profit organizations, and companies on policy and procedure, values and goal clarification, stress and time management, conflict resolution, communication skills, personality disputes, team building, job satisfaction, diversity training, sex discrimination and harassment, and win/win solutions.
She has written for Forbes Magazine on line, interviewing Sir George Martin, producer of The Beatles. She has also interviewed seven time Emmy winner and five time Golden Globe winner, Ed Asner; Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos, The Fugitive, Risky Business); three time Oscar nominee, Diane Ladd, and comedian Steve Solomon.
She has done crisis intervention training for various police departments, including the Orlando Police Department, the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department, as well as completing an internship with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department when she was in graduate school.
She is a sports consultant to high school, college, amateur and professional athletes, concerning fitness, peak performance, negative messages, and dealing with fame. She has worked with athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, Olympics, golf, tennis, and swimming; and with their families, spouses, and children; and she been interviewed by Sports Line and ESPN Radio four times
She sold a TV series to Aaron Spelling, was admitted to the Writers Guild of America, and was also admitted to AFTRA and ASCAP. She has written seven full-length screenplays, three plays, short stories, and has published her poems and political cartoons. She was accepted into Edward Albee’s Master Class in playwrighting for her original play, “The Viewing,” which she adapted into a short film, which she directed and produced. The short film was an official selection at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival and Delray Beach Film Festival and was a finalist in the Best of Florida/Made in Florida Film Festival. She won a Crystal Reel Award from FMPTA for Best Short Script. She also teaches acting classes, workshops and individual lessons.
She hosted and co-produced two live call-in TV shows: “Ask the Family Therapist,” on America’s Health Network, a national cable TV station at Universal Studios, Orlando, associated with Mayo Clinic, and she was selected over 200 applicants in a national search; and “Personal Success Hotline with Dr. Durre',” on a PBS affiliate. From May 2005-February 2006, she appeared weekly as the resident psychotherapist CW’s syndicated morning new show, “The Daily Buzz.”
On WDBO 580 AM radio in Orlando, she hosted and co-produced, “The Dr. Linnda Durre' Show,” as well as, “Let’s Talk with Dr. Linnda Durre',” in New York on an NPR affiliate.
She has appeared on Oprah, 60 Minutes, The Today Show, Good Morning America, O’Reilly (twice), AM LA, The Home and Family Show, Donahue (twice), Sally Jessy Raphael, Jeopardy, The Home Show, Disney Channel, and CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, NPR, and PBS.
She has been interviewed and/or quoted by the NY Times, LA Times, San Diego Union and Tribune, Parade Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner, San Diego Profile Magazine, CNN, Slate, Christian Science Monitor, Albany Times Union, and many more publications and websites.
Her book, the Great Relationships Manual can be found on-line at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders. Her two upcoming books: Great Relationships for Singles and Great Relationships for Couples are the basis for the workshops she conducts for couples and singles.
She has written children’s books, is a published author in the anthology, On Love and Loving, wrote a newspaper column, “Head Lines,” in NY, and was a magazine columnist for Arts & Understanding Magazine (A & U), Orlando Leisure Magazine, and Holistic Health News.
Her columns, entitled, “The Doctor Is In,” for American Cities Business Journals and the Orlando Business Journal, appears on their website, www.bizjournals.com. Her column, “New Faces” has appeared in Florida’s entertainment newspaper, Focus In and can now be found on the website, www.InFocus-Magazine.com , which features newcomers to Florida’s entertainment industry.
Her volunteer work includes: The Bridge Foundation, Cocaine Hotline, Harbor House-The Center Against Domestic Violence, Winter Park Tech, The Golden Rule Foundation, NJ State Diagnostic Center, coordinator of San Diego’s Women’s Counseling Referral Service, Love & Sex Addiction Hotline, Strong on Self-Defense, Women’s Business Exchange; Mentor Programs at five different high schools; and local coordinator for Bill Moyers’ PBS series, “Healing & the Mind.”
