Erin Burnett finished her school studies in 1994 from St. Andrew's Boarding School in Middletown, Delaware. She studied at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts and graduated with MA degree in 1998.

Erin Burnett began her career as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs, analyzing and assessing mergers and acquisitions for their investment banking division. She soon left Goldman Sachs and joined CNN as a writer and a booker for CNN's Moneyline program working along with Stuart Varney, Willow Bay and Lou Dobbs.

Looking for more challenges ahead, Erin Burnett moved from CNN to join Citigroup as Vice President of Citigroup/CitiMedia, where she streamlined their online financial network. Burnett then moved to Bloomberg Television in 2003 anchoring their programs "Bloomberg on the Markets" that throws light on the stock market and "In Focus" that covers top business stories for their program.

In November of 2005, NBC's Chief Executive Bob Wright was at Bloomberg for an interview with Charlie Rose of PBS. There he met Erin Burnett and was instantly impressed by her work, he suggested Mr. Hoffman, the CNBC President to hire her. Mr. Hoffman who was overhauling the CNBC network to look livelier agreed to hire her. Thus on December 1st, 2005 Erin Burnett joined CNBC.

Erin Burnett joined veteran anchor Mark Haines, who has been at CNBC since its inception in 1989, to co-host "Squawk on the Street", a program that brings minute-by-minute update to viewers from the Wall Street where some of the biggest stocks in the world go on trade. The show is on broadcast weekdays from 9-11 am EST.

Erin Burnett is also the host of CNBC's "Street Signs" which is broadcast on weekdays from 2-3 pm EST. On "Street Signs" Erin Burnett breaks the top stories of the day from CNBC's Global Headquarters, assessing in detail the mergers, acquisition and trends in the world of business. Erin Burnett was also a regular at NBC's "Today" and "Nightly News with Brian Williams" and MSNBC's "Morning Joe". On July 17th, 2007, Erin Burnett received high praise from talk show host Rush Limbaugh for her excellent analytical report on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the strength of the US economy on "The Today Show".
