Based in Shanghai, he was previously the managing partner of McKinsey's Seoul office, where he had worked for the past 5 years. Prior to moving to Seoul, he was based in Toronto where he spent 11 years serving a range of Canadian, U.S., and Asian corporations and governments. He is also a member of the firm's shareholder committee, the senior governance body of the firm, and partner review committee. Since joining the firm, Barton has directed a number of strategy and organizational projects for leading financial services firms and has worked on financial sector restructuring in Asia and South America. Barton has given numerous speeches to financial forums in Canada, the United States, Hong Kong and Korea on a range of different financial services topics. He has written articles and has been interviewed in magazines, journals, and newspapers including The Economist Intelligence Unit, Fortune, Institutional Investor, Daily Telegraph, Maeil Business Newspaper, and the Hankook Ilbo. Prior to joining the firm in 1986, Barton was a currency analyst for N.M. Rothschild's in London, monitoring and forecasting 15 European, Asian, and Middle Eastern currencies. Barton holds a M.Phil. in economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a Bachelor of Arts (economics) degree with first class honors from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
