Carl Edwards Biography
Carl Edwards was determined to become a professional racecar driver and entered races whenever he could. In 2003, Edwards was noticed by professionals in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. By 2005, he was a full-time driver for the NEXTEL Cup.
Edwards in known for his "aw shucks" Midwestern attitude that wins hearts in an instant. His boy-next-door charm appeals evenly to men, women and corporate America. And on top of all that, he started winning in Nextel Cup early and often.
Edwards started out in the big leagues 18 months earlier than planned. He won at high-speed Atlanta in just his 17th career start, edging vet Jimmie Johnson by inches and celebrating by doing his signature backflip off the roof of his then-Ford Taurus. The fans were hooked.
In the first 10 years of his career, Carl Edwards accumulated two NASCAR-sanctioned track championships, three Rookie-of-the-Year honors and over 75 feature wins while racing on both dirt and pavement tracks across the country.
