Aviation Milestone: Along with Bertrand Piccard, Brian Jones became the first man to circumnavigate the globe in a balloon, a feat so unprecedented that the gondola from that record-setting journey sits next to the Wright Brothers’ Wright Flyer and the Apollo 11 command module in the Smithsonian’s “Milestones of Flight” exhibition hall.

Ordinary Heroes: Jones’presentation, “Ordinary Heroes,” takes his audiences on the adventure of a lifetime: tackling obstacles of weather, political intrigue, sub-zero temperatures and sleep deprivation. Images captured from the Breitling Orbiter 3 bring to life the glories as well as the trials of his 30,000-mile flight.

World-Record Setting Feat: A balloonist since 1986, Jones served as an on-the-ground project manager for previous global attempts and oversaw construction of the Breitling’s gondola and flight systems. In addition to setting seven world records in the Orbiter 3, Jones and Piccard won a million-dollar prize, which they used to set up a foundation for children suffering in unreported or forgotten circumstances throughout the world. Jones is also co-author of Around the World in 20 Days.
