Brian Billick, who was named the second head coach in Baltimore Ravens history on January 19, 1999, has compiled a 42-28 record (.600) after his first four years as the Ravens’ head coach. He owns the sixth-best record among active NFL head coaches (including playoffs). Billick has led his team to the playoffs in two of his four seasons, including a Super Bowl title following the 2000 season. Baltimore defeated the New York Giants, 34-7, in Super Bowl XXXV, highlighted by its record-setting defense. In 2002, with the youngest team in the NFL, including 19 rookies and first-year players on the opening-day roster, the Ravens finished the year 7-9 and were in playoff contention until the final weeks of the season. Prior to his appointment with the Ravens, Billick spent five years as Minnesota’s offensive coordinator, where in 1998, the Vikings’ offense scored an NFL record for most points in a season (556). The 49-year-old head coach has an impressive résumé on both sides of the ball: In 2000, Billick’s defense surrendered only 165 points, the fewest allowed in a 16-game season and also became the first team since 1978 to allow fewer than 1,000 rushing yards (970) in a regular season. |
