Bill Paxon is a senior advisor at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in Washington, a global law firm that is one of the ten largest in the United States. Paxon is also a former member of Congress, where he served for 10 years.
Paxon was a member of Congress from 1988 to 1998. As the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Paxon played a key role in electing and re-electing the first House Republican Majorities since the 1920s.
The authoritative Almanac of American Politics termed Paxon "a triumphant national leader" who is "one of the party's best political brains" and "best natural politicians." Most recently, Bill Paxon chaired the Bush-Cheney Transition Advisory Team after having served as a key adviser during George W. Bush’s Presidential Campaign.
In Congress, Paxon also was chairman of the House Leadership and for five years participated in the joint House-Senate Leadership meetings. Paxon was a member of Congress’s oldest, most powerful standing committee, the Commerce Committee. While there, Paxon served on subcommittees dealing with telecommunications, finance, health, environment, insurance, trade, hazardous materials, energy and power.
