Andy Rooney, in his more than half a century as a television writer, producer and commentator, has won numerous awards including four Emmys. He is the author of 12 books and also writes a twice-weekly syndicated column that appears in more than 200 newspapers nationwide.

Rooney is likely best known as the beloved curmudgeon whose essays on the CBS program "60 Minutes" reach millions each Sunday evening. He is the author of 12 books including: "Years of Minutes", 2003, "Common Nonsense", 2002, "Sincerely, Andy Rooney", 1999, and "My War", 1997. He has also collaborated on two books regarding his experiences in World War II. One was a history of the military newspaper "Stars and Stripes" and the other was called "Air Gunner".

Andy Rooney was a respected correspondent for "Stars and Stripes" in World War II. He reported from virtually every theatre of the war, and was a member of the "Writing 69th", the group of courageous correspondents that accompanied Ameican crews on bombing missions over Europe.

After one mission, Andy wrote these words for the Army newspaper "Stars and Stripes": "Peeling out of the sun came shining silver German fighter planes, diving at one bomber in the formation and disappearing below the clouds as quickly as they had come. They seemed tiny, hardly a machine of destruction, and an impossible target. From that time until three and one half hours later, when we were half way home, no one had to look far to see a German fighter." February 27, l943.
