Printable Biography of Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave

She was educated at Brillantmont in Lausanne and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in Political Science.  She also attended the Islamic Institute in Paris where she met her husband, internationally renowned journalist Arnaud de Borchgrave.        

A photographer who has traveled extensively on assignment for the Gamma Agency in Paris, Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave's portraits of notables such as President George Bush, the late King Hussein, Dr. Henry Kissinger and the late President Sadat have hung in government offices around the world.  Her work had been featured on the covers of numerous foreign and domestic magazines and she received international recognition when she was the subject of a cover story on Town and Country magazine.        

Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave is the author of HEALING LIGHT: Thirty Messages of Love, Hope and Courage (Glitterati Incorporated, September 11, 2005), a collection of her inspirational poetry illustrated with details from Indian Mughal art paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries. HEALING LIGHT is dedicated to all those who have suffered the adversity of life, and four thousand copies were sent as gifts by John C. Whitehead, Chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, to all the Survivors' Families of 9/11.         

Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave is also the co-author of VILLARD: The Life and Times of an American Titan (Double day, March 20, 2001), a biography of her great-grandfather, railroad magnate and financier Henry Villard, who built the Northern Pacific Railroad and masterminded the creation of General Electric.  She is president of DBC Corporation, a consultancy company she founded with her husband which advises multinational CEO's.        

As an avid supporter of the Arts, Mrs. de Borchgrave has chaired events for such organizations as the American Ballet Theatre and Arts for the Aging, and has served on a number of committees for the Washington Opera, the Washington Ballet and Meridian House.  She served as Chairman of the Republican Women's Federal Forum in 1990 and currently serves as a member of its Advisory Council.  She was elected to the Board of Blair House in October 1998 and serves on the Advisory Committee of the Asia Society Washington Center.

Photojournalist, historian, author, and poet, Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave was recently seen worldwide on C-SPAN with her presentation of VILLARD at the Library of Congress and on CNBC's 700 Club in an interview about HEALING LIGHT. She has also spoken at such venues as The Asia Society, the Four Arts Society, The Freer Gallery of Art, the Strategic Investment Group, and the Woodrow Wilson Center.
